From the high tech, highly creative world of motor racing, Formula E arrives with a bang. Well, less loud and less fast but incredibly inventive and with a truly social purpose: zero pollution, to encourage the electric car market to develop. And it has the official backing of two big names internationally: Sir Richard Branson and the Hollywood artist Leonardo di Caprio have set up teams.
But don’t think the cars are boring, slow and silent. They can go from 0 to 100km/h in less than 2.5s. The most extraordinary aspect of the cars are their efficiency. They claim it has 100% of energy consumption. All the regulations are aimed to make the machines as efficient as possible.

Even though tonight is Champions League semi final, there is very little about the matches being discussed in the news. All the papers and sports news on TV are talking about since very early this morning has been the sacking of David Moyes by Manchester United. There is not much one can add to all the comments, opinions, facts, photos etc. So I have chosen a few things worth reading to make your job easy to understand it all. Moyes is an extremely decent man and a highly regarded manager. Some blame the new football results first policy, others bring up the appalling sequence of negative records he broke. And the foreigners taking over the biggest teams in the world is also on the spotlight.
The interim managerial position will be taken over by veteran Welsh player Ryan Giggs. According to Press Reports, Giggs has been very critical of Moyes. Well. let’s see how much better he can do it himself now.
The name most mentioned to take over Moyes is of Dutchman Louis van Gaal. He has rejected the chance to become Tottenham manager – paving the way for the Dutchman to become David Moyes’ successor at Manchester United. Van Gaal, 62, will take Holland to this summer’s World Cup in Brazil. I’m sure he is extremely competent. He is a good friend of Mourinho’s and I heard him talk in the Portuguese tribute night organised by the Football Writers Association in London. It was on of the most boring, arrogant and self serving speech I have ever heard in my life. it will be interesting to see how he works with the American owner of Old Trafford team.
Oliver Holt’s comments explains perfectly what has happened and the implications in the decision: to take the job in the first place and then to have lost it. And all without pretense melodrama, high morals or this is how it is like ….. He describes the post as a poison chalice but one that Moyes had to take.
And it is hardly surprising considering the heavy media scrutiny. Here is an article published on the Daily Telegraph nearly a month ago.
Atletico’s Football Director, Eduardo Maluf, told the press yesterday that not only is his club no longer interested in signing Anelka but they will enter with a representation at FIFA against his agent, Christian Casini. According to Maluf, Atletico had a pre contract signed with the player and had issued tickets to Brazil for him, his brother Claude Anelka and Casini .
“We had a pre contract that would see Anelka playing for us until December 2015”, said Maluf. The club has lost its patience and feels disrespected as they have been waiting for his arrival in Minas since 6th of April. Different reasons have been given and the last one, Anelka is in Kwait taking part on a religious event (he turned Muslim) was the last straw. The club deadline was last Thursday, 10th.
The newspapers in Europe seem not to be surprised at all and the English Daily Mail even jokes as hinting at “I told you so”.
We all supposed he was looking for a new job. But this?
Watch the video (link below) and decide for yourself. I personally do not think it is funny when he says : “I am the winner of 7 Tour de France…” (stops for a couple of seconds) and adds: “Hey, I did not write the script.” And I believe his cheated competitors – not many as we all know now that most of them were cheaters , too – would agree with me.
O Bayern , no entanto, ficou profundamente ofendido .

Mirror’s Manchester reporter, David McDonnell, and Chief Sport Writer, Oliver Holt, have had their accreditation for tonight’s match withdrawn. It seems they are being punished by an offensive headline last week. But is this censorship? And even if they deserve punishment, stopping them from doing their job is the right way to go about it? The Germans seem to imply it was similar to the “Gay Gunners” banner shown by some fans at the Allianz Stadium. Really?
In his column today Holt explains what happened. Some extracts.
Last week, Schweinsteiger scored a superb equaliser for Bayern but was later sent off for a foul on Wayne Rooney. He left the pitch hurling abuse at Rooney and accusing him of cheating to get him dismissed, even though he had mistimed his tackle hopelessly.
The headline read like this: You Dirty Schwein. Now, you may not split your sides over this headline. You may think it mildly funny. Or you may think it crass.
Whatever you thought of it, it was changed for the second edition.
Bayern, though, were deeply offended. Schwein means ‘pig’ in German and is, apparently, a grave insult.
Bayern’s media director, Markus Hörwick, telephoned the Mirror’s chief football writer, Martin Lipton, the next morning and complained bitterly about it.The newspaper apologised to him for any offence we had caused, but the apology was not accepted. The club said the headline was “disrespectful, discriminatory and personally insulting” towards Schweinsteiger.
They also, somewhat surprisingly, sought to draw a parallel between the Mirror headline and a homophobic banner some of its fans held up at the Allianz Arena at a tie against Arsenal that read ‘Gay Gunners’ and mocked the appearance of Mesut Ozil.
Bayern argued that they had been punished for their fans’ homophobia and now the Mirror must be punished for our headline.
Oscar Pistorius himself took to the stand this morning , on the first day of Defence against charges of intentionally killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Looking visibly tearful the ex paralympic star and Olympic Champion, stuttering, started by apologising to her family. He explained that he tried many times to write to them but couldn’t .
“I will start my evidence by tendering an apology,” he said. “I would like to apologise to Mr and Mrs Steenkamp, her family and friends. I can’t imagine the pain and the sorrow and the emptiness I have caused you and your family. You’re the first people I think of when I wake up. You’re the first people I pray for. I was trying to protect Reeva. When she went to bed that night, she felt loved. I’ve tried to put my pen to paper many times to write to you but no words would ever suffice.”
Before the court was adjourned again, due to Pistorius’ exhaustion, he was asked about how many times he had been burgled and all the fears that he had about living in South Arica. According to Pistorius, his father and brother had been kidnapped, his house was burgled into when he was abroad competing and a TV and laptop were taken and that he was followed at night when out with then girlfriend Samantha Taylor.
According to Emma Sadleir, a media lawyer and commentator of one of the 24hr news channels explained that, under South African law, the accused is not obliged to take to the stands but , if he decides to do so, he needs to be the first in the dock. The prosecution lasted 3 and a half weeks where, again according to Ms Sadleir, the order of testimonies were masterful . “They brought his neighbours who heard Reeva’s screams; forensics, who told the court about the scene of the crime; ballistics, who put forward evidence of the angles of the fires when shot and firearm experts who brought to court Pistorius application to hold a firearm’ which he passed with 98% correct proving he knew very well he was not allowed to fire through a door.
The defence started today after a week break due to an assistance to the judge falling ill. Pistorius is not denying killing Reeva. The defence is using an unusual claim: Putitive Private defense which states that, at the moment of firing Pistorius genuinely believed his life was in danger.
There are no juries at trials in South Africa and Pistorius’s fate will ultimately be decided by Judge Masipa, assisted by two assessors.
Two days ago, the ex Formula 1 doctor (2005/12), the american Gary Hartstein, wrote on his blog that Michales Schumacher’s fans should use this long time in hospital to start saying goodbye to him. He added a partial criticism to the media strategy used by the family , stating that not enough informative bulletins foments a world of gossip and speculations. The blog is extremely long and detailed.
Since then, Hartstein has been quoted, misquoted and criticised by hundreds of people through social media. This afternoon. He added, again a long, explanation to his blog. Here are some of his clarifications:
I am very clearly criticising a system that allows head injured patients to be brought to non-neurosurgical centers, in the absence of other clear reasons to do so.
4) The failure to adequately control an agitated patient prior to flight, as well as the delays in adequate control of the airway likely indicate insufficient training, insufficiently robust protocols, and perhaps insufficient experience under difficult circumstances (again, a mega-star patient with a difficult, demanding and perhaps even frankly hostile entourage). I am very clearly criticising a system that allows this to happen.
5) It is impossible to quantify the impact of the above on outcome in Michael’s case. Obviously. It is also obvious that someone whose neurosurgeon, the day after the trauma, describes his condition as “hematomas left, right and centre” is likely not to do particularly well. This should be obvious, at least to the “journalists” who disingenuously (at best!) implied that I said that Michael’s current situation is because of these aspects of his initial care. The delay in admission to a neurosurgeon, as well as deferred airway control, cannot have been good for a severely injured brain. Especially in a situation where the intracranial pressure has risen so high that parts of the brain are literally being squeezed out of the cranial vault. That said, in terms of prognosis, this likely pales in significance compared to the 2000-and-some-odd joules of impact energy against that goddamned rock.
